Invitation To "Bye Bye Backtalk" Another 5 Day Challenge

I have had a personal battle lately with my children respecting me and doing what I ask of them. This will be changing immediately and I thought to myself...Hmm... Let's have another 5 day challenge. Yes, folks, I am inviting you to join in another 5 day challenge. I am calling it, “Bye Bye Backtalk”. I hate to admit it but my son loves to talk back to me and I just cant take another minute of it. Starting November 1, 2010 I invite you to join along in this journey! I am also challenging myself to keep my voice in check! I might be getting a time out if I raise my voice!

I can guarantee it will not go as smoothly as the dinner challenge. Be prepared for some entertainment.

Why I Hung Up On 911

I am not one to open the door for a salesman or any door to door person for that matter. Our safety comes first. Just last week a man knocked on our door and my husband did not recognize him so we did not answer. The man knocked twice, rang the door bell, and used the door knocker. Obviously, we were not interested, but he didn't seem to get the point. I got a little nervous, but finally he left.

Five minutes later he is back and pushing a lawn mower. My mind jumped to the worst thing ever. Was he going to try to kill us with a lawn mower? Ok, yeah... GET REAL Melissa. I am just over reacting. Again, we did not answer the door. After some more serious persistence on his behalf, he leaves. I felt quite uneasy at this point because he keeps coming back and my husband won't answer the door.

Not even 10 minutes later, my son, who was in the play room near the window, hollers out, “there is someone climbing on my play set”. I freaked out, pulled my son away from the window, while I grabbed my phone and dialed 911 immediately. The problem here is I never looked out the window. I just took my 4 year old child’s word for it. As the phone is ringing I decided to take a peak from the corner of the window. I was very careful and sneaky about it so no one would see me. I QUICKLY hung up the phone! There was nobody crawling on the play set. There was “something” crawling on the play set. A BUG! A BUG? I felt like a fool but at least I was keeping my family safe. One of the worst thoughts of this situation is 911 never called me back after I hung up on them. Maybe I just hung up quick enough before there was a connection.

So, I have learned an important lesson. There is a major difference between “someone” and “something” crawling on a play set. It is also best to make sure the 4 year old is giving it to me straight before dialing 911. Of course, none of this would have been so scary if we had not just had the lawn mower man knocking on the door. The lawn mower man came back next week, I was actually brave enough to answer the door this time. This mysterious persistent person was actually a Teenage boy trying to make some extra money. MY BRAIN works overtime.

Halloween Party Ideas

Are you in need of Halloween party ideas? Here are 4 of my favorites!

  1. 1. Find the worms. Hide gummy worms through out the house or outside and set the kids free to find them.
  2. 2. Pin the nose on the pumpkin.
  3. 3.Balloon pop. Fill the balloons with a small prize or a piece of candy prior to filling them up. Then go ahead and blow them up. Let the kids bounce on them until they pop.
  4. 4.Face Painting.

My recent post on Mess Free Pumpkin Decorating may also be a fun idea for your Halloween party!
